Double Chocolate Hearts [vegan]

These vegan double chocolate hearts are very moorish. The chocolate biscuit has a dark chocolate centre. Perfect for Valentine’s or whenever you feel like treating yourself or someone else.

These heart biscuits are lovely with a hot drink especially when you bite into the centre and hit the double chocolate layer.

If you do not have a heart tin, you can make those in an madeleine pan or mini muffin tray.

  • 1. Pre-heat the oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas 4.
  • 2. Grease the hearts tin. Coat with a flour, shaking off the excess.
  • 3. Melt dairy free butter in a pan.
  • 4. Whisk melted butter and sugar in a bowl.
  • 5. In a separate bowl shift together flour, baking powder and cocoa powder.
  • 6. Add shifted dry ingredients to the butter/sugar mixture. Blend well.
  • 7. Add vanilla and almond milk. Mix until dough is uniform.
  • 8. Place some dough in each heart. Press a chocolate square in the middle of each heart. Cover each chocolate square with more dough so that to hide it.
  • 9. Cook for 15 mins or until an inserted cake skewer comes out completely clean.
  • 10. Wait for the hearts to have cooled down before transferring them to a wire rack. The hearts are best eaten within 2 hours of cooking.
