Food For Real Film Festival 2015

Food for Real Film Festival 2015 will take place in Liverpool next week (March 19th-22nd). The festival seeks to explore the environmental, cultural and political impacts of the food we grow, eat, waste and share.

With the theme of food waste running throughout the festival, the freshly prepared 2015 menu of films includes over 30 food-focused features, documentaries, shorts and animations – with associated talks, hands-on activities and tastings.

This year, 5 tasty themes have shaped the programme: Salt and Sugar, Food and MindToxteth Eco Hub and Family.

Amongst the numerous events happening this year, two have particularly caught my attention. Just Eat It and The Sower.

Just Eat It is a documentary film about food waste and food rescue.  Just Eat It explores our systemic obsession with expiry dates, perfect produce and portion sizes, and reveals the core of an issue that is having devastating consequences around the globe.

The screening on March 19th at 6pm, will be followed by a Q&A with food waste campaigner Tristram Stuart founder of the charity Feedback which runs the Feeding the 5000 campaigns, The Gleaning Network UK and The Pig Idea. Tristram works with governments, businesses and civil society to catalyse change in social attitudes and demonstrate innovative solutions to tackle food waste at a global scale. Book your free ticket(s) here.

“The Sower” is a unique insight into the life of Patrice Fortier, an artist-turned-seed dealer who owns the Société des Plantes, an avant-garde farm in southern Quebec. Fortier dedicates his energies in developing his own seed library to cultivate the heirlooms of the future.
