Delicious Pulses – London Falafel Festival

London Falafel Festival

If you are looking for something fun and delicious to do during the Early May Bank Holiday, look no further than the London Falafel Festival.

Taking place in the iconic Borough Market on May 1st, the event offers festival goers the unique opportunity to sample delicious pulse-based falafels, made by some of the world’s best falafel chefs who will bring their  unique takes on the humble dish:

  • Direct from Cairo, chef Moustafa El Rrefaey of Zööba will feature his signature Egyptian falafel made with fava beans, stuffed with charred aubergine and drizzled with beetroot and hibiscus tahini.
  • Direct from Beirit, Hadi Hazim of the pop-up sensation Fusion Cult will premiere his original black-eyed-bean falafel stuffed with Pico de Gallo and avocado and topped a runny quail egg.
  • Direct from the City of London, Uri Dinay of the falafel and houmous bar Pilpel will showcase his acclaimed spiced chickpea falafel sandwich with crunchy cabbage, pickle and silky tahini.
  • Direct from all over London, Louai Fares and Rasheed Muhammed of the street food kings Hoxton Beach will feature crushed falafel made with a 50-50 blend of fava beans and chickpeas.

With one of the world’s most popular street foods as its focus, the London Falafel Festival celebrates the UN 2016 International Year of Pulses. Pulses are nutritious dried beans, dried peas, lentils and chickpeas.

Falafel 3

The London Falafel Festival is organised by Daniel Young of Young & Foodish, the man behind the popular London Pizza Festival.

Speaking about the Falafel Festival, Daniel Young, comments: “2016 is the International Year of Pulses, so what better way to celebrate then by bringing together four of the best falafel vendors in the world to cook up a storm? There will also be stalls selling craft beer, cocktails, soft drinks and ice cream, as well as cookery demonstrations from Rachel Green, who’ll be cooking with UK pulses throughout the day. We anticipate this event to be sell-out, as nothing like this has been done before.”

Tickets are now on sale and cost £20 (children under 12 go free), which includes admission to the festival and good-size tasting portions of each of the four falafel dishes, allowing visitors to vote on which they like the best. There are only 500 tickets available so you have to be quick to grab yours.

The Falafel Festival will take place on 1st May 2016 from 1-5pm at Jubilee Place, Borough Market. To book your tickets visit www.youngandfoodish.com, it is a ticket-only event. For more information on International Year of Pulses, visit iyp2016.org.
