Nature’s Path Organic Review + Competition

February 4, 2017 · theflexitarian 2 Comments

Nature's Path Organic

A pioneer in the organic foods movement,  Nature’s Path was founded in 1985 in Vancouver, Canada. This fiercely independent, family-run business has an unshakeable commitment to organic, which is reflected in its business ethics and translates into a global product line of over 150 organic, many of them vegan or/and gluten-free.

While we consider whole grains and cereals as part of a healthy diet, we often forget that conventional farming uses artificial fertilisers or pesticides as well as genetically modified crops that find their ways onto our plates. This is bad for both our health and the environment.

In contrast, organic agriculture is designed to work in complete harmony with nature, while growing food that is free of nasty chemicals.

Nature’s Path sources most of its ingredients locally in North America and abides by fair-trade principles when sourcing products from abroad. As part of its investment in a healthy and sustainable future, Nature’s Path also owns farmland purely dedicated to organic agriculture. Taking an environmental philosophy towards its business as a whole, Nature’s Path uses wind turbine power, is zero waste certified and avoids air freighting. In addition, all cardboard packaging is made from recycled materials and uses vegetable-based inks.

Nature’s Path’s organic range contains no artificial additives and has been designed to appeal to the whole family.  Many products are gluten-free and bear the Coeliac UK seal.

We’re committed to organic food and farming and work to “always leave the earth better than [we] found it”. We want to advance the cause of people and the planet, along the path to sustainability. Rupert Stephens

My family and I have been busy all week tasting out some Nature’s Path cereals. I love ancient grains because they are generally more nutritious, so it was fantastic to see that Nature’s Path uses amaranth, quinoa, buckwheat and millet along with oats, corn and rice.

Our breakfast selection included:

Nature's Path

  • Maple Sunrise Cereals – Gluten-Free
  • Mesa Sunrise Cereals – Gluten-Free
  • Nice and Nobbly Fruity Granola – Gluten-Free
  • Nice and Nobbly Pumpkin Granola – Gluten-Free
  • Nice and Crumbly Granola – Coconut & Chia Seed
  • Nice and Crumbly Granola – Pumpkin & Flax Seed

We also tried some Nice and Nobbly Gluten-Free Trail Mix Granola Bars which can be eaten as a snack or for breakfast on-the-go.

Maple Sunrise is a tasty mix of corn, rice, flax, quinoa, buckwheat and amaranth. Sweetened with maple syrup, it is absolutely delicious and completely gluten-free and wheat-free. We all loved it. Rating: ★★★★✰

Mesa Sunrise is also gluten-free and wheat-free. It includes a crunchy mix of corn, flax and amaranth. It is a good option if you prefer less sugary cereals. Rating: ★★★★★

This Nice and Nobbly Granola is a scrumptious fruity mix of blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and yoghurt chunks. Made with organic gluten-free oats, it bears a Coeliac UK License. This granola comes with big clusters which are delicious with milk or yoghurt alike.  Rating: ★★★★✰

A delicious dash of cinnamon gives a perfect flavour to this crunchy granola with pumpkin seeds, almonds and raisins. Hard to resist. Made with organic gluten-free oats, it bears a Coeliac UK License. It is perfect served with fruit, milk or yoghurt. Rating: ★★★★✰

The Pumpkin & Flax Seed Granola has small clusters of baked rolled oats, blended with pumpkin and flax seeds making it a good source of fibre and plant-based omega-3. A dash of cinnamon gives it the perfect warming feel. Crumbly, it is perfect with milk, yoghurt or fruit.  Rating: ★★★★★

The Coconut & Chia Seed Granola is another winning combination enhanced by the addition of natural vanilla. This wholesome blend is also a good source of fibre and omega-3.  Rating: ★★★★★

Who does not like a good trail mix? This one comes in a gluten-free chewy bar that you can have as a wholesome snack or for breakfast on-the-go.  Gluten-free rolled oats, amaranth and quinoa are mixed with scrumptious cranberries, almonds and crunchy peanuts as well as pumpkin seeds, coconut, flax seeds. There are also some Dark Choc Chip Granola Bars I cannot wait to try next. Rating: ★★★★✰

After much deliberation around the breakfast table, we could not pick a favourite. Quite simply we liked the whole range. On taste alone they all get top marks. We gave some 4 stars because their sugar content was higher compared to others in the range, yet comparable to most other cereals and granola. This is something you need to be careful with cereals, and make sure you balance your week with low sugar options.

I am so glad that Nature’s Path has kindly offered 1 cereal bundle for 1 lucky reader to win. To enter simply select an entry option below.

This scrumptious vegan chocolate courgette cake is a perfect example of how delicious plant-based baking can be. Pure indulgence! This is one of the most popular dessert recipes on the blog.

The courgettes are the secret and (very) discreet ingredient. You cannot taste them but they add moisture and texture as well as 1 of your 5 a day to this scrumptious chocolate cake.

Grab the recipe on the blog. Link in my bio.

Bursting with flavours this Garlic & Tomato Pasta makes a delicious and easy summer dish that is perfect for this hot weather. You can serve it slightly warm or at room temperature. It is also scrumptious the next day as a cold leftover.

This is an old family recipe that back home we call Pâtes à l’ail. Growing up, my Sicilian great-aunt (yes I am a 1/4 Italian in case you did not know 😉) would make it for us in the summer when tomatoes are at their best.

Like any recipe that has been passed down through generations, creating a written version of it, involved quite a few phone calls between my mum and one of our cousins. Everyone in the family makes this Garlic & Tomato Pasta from memory, adding their own twist and using approximate quantities of ingredients. My version is even more different as I have added cannellini beans for protein.

You can find the recipe on the blog. Link in my bio.
