Pret A Manger has launched the Veggie Pret’s Vegan Bakery in all Veggie Pret shops and becomes the first high street food-to-go retailer to move to an entirely vegan bakery counter.

The launch of ‘Veggie Pret’s Vegan Bakery’ will see the company show its dedication to innovation in vegan food, not only by launching brand new items, but by removing all non-vegan bakery products from sale.

The Vegan Bakery adds eight brand new items to the Veggie Pret menu, including; three vegan croissants, two vegan brownies and three vegan muffins. These new additions join two existing vegan bakery items, The Very Berry Croissant and the Dark Chocolate & Almond Butter Cookie, making up a counter of ten delicious treats. All are now available for takeaway and delivery.

Following the success earlier this year of The Very Berry Croissant, Pret’s Chefs have now developed three more vegan croissants, which use margarine and sunflower oil to re-create the buttery, light texture of traditional croissants. The new range includes a take on a classic ‘butter’ croissant, named The Vegan Plain Croissant and, also The Vegan Almond Croissant and The Vegan Chocolate Croissant for those looking for something a little bit sweeter.

If a croissant isn’t your breakfast of choice, the Vegan Banana and Walnut Muffin is another tasty option, combining banana muffin with pieces of date and walnut. Completing the new range of vegan muffins are the Vegan Raspberry and Coconut Muffin and Vegan Choca Mocha Muffin – both perfect for that mid-morning pick me up with a cup of Pret’s organic coffee.

Finally, Pret’s Chefs have developed two brownie recipes for those looking for the ultimate vegan indulgence. These include The Ultimate Vegan Brownie – a gooey chocolate baked treat and The Vegan Hazelnut and Caramel Brownie, which combines chocolate brownie with roasted hazelnuts and vegan caramel.

Veggie Pret Re-Opens Today in London and Manchester and Launches Delivery in Partnership with Deliveroo

VEGGIE PRET RE-OPENS AND LAUNCHES DELIVERY IN PARTNERSHIP WITH DELIVEROO

Today, Veggie Pret will launch its first delivery service in partnership with Deliveroo. Shops in London and Manchester will also re-open, after being closed throughout the Coronavirus pandemic.

All ten Veggie Pret shops will re-open for takeaway, with new safety and social distancing measures in place and a reduced menu of their vegan and vegetarian favourites. Seven of the ten shops, including the Manchester location, will offer deliveries for the first time by Deliveroo’s fleet of riders.

The re-opening of Veggie Pret means that bestsellers, such as the exclusive Vegan Classics range, including the Vegan Eggless Mayo & Cress baguette, the Vegan Chuna Mayo baguette and the VLT are available for delivery for the first time, as Deliveroo customers look for more vegan and vegetarian options.

Veggie Pret was born in 2016, after conversations with customers around how Pret could offer more delicious vegetarian options. Three new locations opened in early 2020, while the company made its biggest ever change to the menu. 19 new items were added, including vegan Poké Bowls and vegan Smoothie Bowls.

This week also sees the further re-opening of Pret shops around the country. On Monday 8 June, several shops situated in railway stations, such as King’s Cross, Manchester Piccadilly and
Leeds have opened for takeaway. From June 15th, several shops located in shopping centres around the country will begin to open.

Veggie Pret Opens Two New Locations in London

Veggie Pret is opening two new locations in London today on St Mary Axe and King William Street, bringing the total number of Veggie Pret to 10.

Both shops are based in The City and follow the opening of a site in Cardinal Place, Victoria earlier this month and add to a list of existing shops with more openings planned for the next few months.

From humble beginnings as a pop-up on Broadwick Street in London in 2016, Pret a Manger opened its first Veggie Pret in 2017 in response to customers’ demand for more vegetarian and vegan options. Veggie Pret only sells a range of vegetarian and vegan menu items, many of which are exclusive to Veggie Pret.

Last year saw the number of Veggie Pret grow from four to seven, with locations in both London and Manchester. The company also introduced ‘The Vegan Classics’, four plant-based versions of some of Pret’s best selling ‘classic’ sandwiches, baguettes and wraps: The VLT, The Vegan Chuna Mayo baguette, The Vegan Eggless Mayo & Cress baguette and The Vegan Hoisin Mushroom Wrap.

Other notable launches have included Pret A Manger’s first vegan cookies, a roll out of 250 water fountains where anyone can refill for free as well as the launch of vegan croissants.

Celebrate the End of Veganuary with a FREE Vegan Croissant at Pret

Reward yourself for completing Veganuary by enjoying a free vegan croissant at participating Pret and Veggie Pret shops across the country on Friday (31 January) between 3pm and 4pm. All you need to do is quote the secret password which will be shared on Pret’s social media channels.

The Very Berry Croissant is the latest plantbased innovation from Pret and has been a huge hit with customers since launching in early January. Pret vegan croissant is currently selling more than double the amount per day of the non-vegan jam croissant it replaced, showing that there is a growing number of customers looking for vegan alternatives.

For those who haven’t had a chance to try it, the sweet treat uses margarine and sunflower oil to re-create the buttery, light texture of a traditional croissant. The pastry is then filled with a sweet berry compote and finished with a sprinkling of sugar.

The other good news is that Pret has not only stopped charging extra for non-dairy milk alternatives, but is now also offering oat milk as an option.

To claim their freebie, customers should head to a participating Pret shop on Friday (31st January) afternoon between 3pm and 4pm, quoting the password to receive their free Very Berry Croissant. The password will be revealed on Pret’s social media accounts over the next couple of days @Pret on Twitter; Pret A Manger on Facebook and @Pret on Instagram.

Today, Pret A Manger is introducing ‘The Vegan Classics’, four plant-based versions of some of Pret’s best selling ‘classic’ sandwiches, baguettes and wraps. The VLT, The Vegan Chuna Mayo baguette, The Vegan Eggless Mayo & Cress baguette and The Vegan Hoisin Mushroom Wrap, are available from today exclusively in Veggie Pret shops.

Pret A Manger has chosen to use unprocessed ingredients such shiitake mushroom instead of bacon and chickpeas in place of tuna so that none of ‘The Vegan Classics’ include meat or fish substitutes.

The Vegan Chuna Mayo (£2.99) baguette is a take on the Pole & Line Caught Tuna Mayo and Cucumber Baguette. To replicate fish, it combines chickpeas and vegan mayo, seasoned with a
sprinkling of pickled onions, chopped capers and parsley, finished with a squeeze of lemon. The white baguette is served with sliced cucumber, red onion and rocket. The original
recipe sells over 10,000 in the UK every day.

The VLT (£3.29) is the plant-based version of Pret’s Best Ever BLT. It pairs roasted shiitake mushroom ‘rashers’, with sliced tomatoes, green salad and a generous dollop of vegan mayo, all served on Pret’s malted bread.

The Vegan Eggless Mayo & Cress (£2.99) uses a combination of tofu and vegan mayo to create Pret’s first ‘eggless mayo’ and the baguette is finished with freshly chopped cress, and a little seasoning.

The Vegan Hoisin Duck Salad Wrap (£3.50) includes glazed mushrooms coated in Pret’s rich hoisin sauce, with cucumber, pickled cabbage & carrot salad  finished with sliced spring onion, coriander and baby leaf spinach.

The Vegan Classics are available in Veggie Pret shops from today October 24th which also marks the opening of the fifth Veggie Pret located in Canary Wharf.

Today Pret A Manger launched its biggest ever new menu in its 33 year history, filled with vibrant colours, flavours and textures. The company is introducing 20 new recipes that reflect the UK’s changing consumer tastes and can be eaten any time of the day. Of the 20 new products, EIGHT are vegan, FIVE are vegetarian.

Pret’s classics will still remain, but the new menu will see unprecedented expanded choice with customers at the heart of this change.

Two thirds of Pret’s salad pots (such as the Egg & Avocado Protein Pot) are eaten outside of lunchtime and the newly expanded range will ensure even more choice through breakfast, mid-morning, lunch and mid-afternoon.

The 20 new products include colourful salads, delicious salad pots, vegan and meaty open sandwiches on Pret’s first ever Gluten-Free Bread, new desserts, two new vegan breakfast birchers, and a bircher smoothie.

New ingredients
Inspired by food development trips around the world and evolving consumer tastes, Pret is introducing a variety of new ingredients from smashed avo (smashed by hand in Pret’s shop kitchens each day), to chilli salt and roasted chestnut mushrooms. The mushrooms are roasted for 55 minutes in a sticky tamari, miso and brown sugar marinade and offer a delicious umami flavour to two new vegan dishes.

Pret’s gluten-free bread
Pret’s customers have been asking for gluten-free bread for years. After trying to find a gluten free bread Pret could be proud of, Pret’s chefs gave up…and instead, made their own recipe. The bread – a result of nine months of development and 30 different recipes – combines oat, Pret’s colourful new salads and salad pots teff, buckwheat and quinoa flours, with millet, red quinoa, sourdough and a dash of treacle.

The soft, flavoursome bread slices will be topped with three delicious toppings and served as a range of open sandwiches.

Pret A Manger rolls out 250 water fountains where anyone can refill for free

In a bid to reduce plastic bottle use, Pret encourages customers (and passers-by) to ‘fill up for free’ at any of its 250 filtered water fountains. Self-service water stations have been rolled out around the country to help remove the barrier of asking for a refill, with one in five feeling uncomfortable asking even when they’ve made a purchase.

Research commissioned by Refill in 2018* found that one in three adults in the UK (34%) felt uncomfortable asking for a reusable bottle to be filled at a restaurant or café when they hadn’t bought anything. One in five (19%) still felt uncomfortable asking even when they had made a purchase. The installation of filtered water fountains is designed to address this concern, allowing people to refill their water bottles without worrying about asking.

To make it even easier for customers and passers-by to find their closest filtered water point, Pret is now signed up to Refill – a nationwide campaign to prevent plastic pollution at source by making it easier to reuse and refill a water bottle on the go. The location-based app connects users with businesses, transport hubs and public spaces where they can fill up for free, wherever they are.

Director of Strategy & Sustainability, Laura Gutowski, comments, “Although we already offered drinking water on request at all of our shops, we know that behaviour is most likely to change if we can enable people to fill up themselves, rather than having to ask a team member at the counter. We have installed filtered water fountains in all of our shops with enough space front of house. The fountains are easy to spot, and we want everyone – not just Pret customers – to feel able to come in and fill up for free without hesitation.

“If each of our water stations is used just 10 times a day, we could save around a million plastic bottles a year, and that for us is great motivation to continue rolling them out.”

A further 90 Pret shops have free filtered water available behind the counter, where customers and passers-by can ask Pret team members to refill their reusable water bottles. In these shops, it is not operationally possible to install fountains.

35 more units are planned for installation later this year, making free filtered water available in over 95% of Pret shops. Drinking water is already available close by to the remaining shops.

Pret A Manger’s Vegan Christmas Sandwich Returns

Following its success last year, Pret vegan Christmas Sandwich returns this holiday season. In fact, veggie Christmas Lunch, vegan Very Merry Christmas Lunch along with the Festive Winter Salad are all back due to popular demand.

For every Christmas sandwich and baguette sold, 50p will be donated towards the Pret Foundation Trust (PFT) to continue its work helping to alleviate homelessness. This year, the menu is supported by a campaign that celebrates the PFT’s Rising Stars programme. Set up in 2008, the Rising Stars programme takes on 50 ex-homeless people each year and provides them with a job which includes training in Pret shops, as well as one-to-one counselling, weekly chat groups and creative art sessions.

The new festive menu is available nationwide from November 6th and includes the following meat-free options:

Pret A Manger Opens Veggie Pret Manchester + Adds New Vegan & Vegetarian Menu Options

Pret A Manger will be opening the doors to its first Veggie Pret Manchester in October (the first outside of London) following hundreds of customer requests on social media asking the company to open Veggie Prets in more cities.

The fourth Veggie Pret shop will open on Deansgate with a new menu (which will launch in Veggie Pret shops in London at the same time), and it will combine veggie classics with new dishes, such as Pret’s Butternut & Cauliflower Gratin and a Spicy Halloumi & Peppers Toasted Baguette.

Pret A Manger’s First Vegan Cookies

New salads, baguettes and Pret A Manger’s first vegan cookies will be introduced to shops on Tuesday 17th April, just in time for spring.

The spring menu includes a variety of delicious options for vegetarians, vegans and flexitarians, such as a Buffalo Mozzarella & Pesto salad, Avo, Olives & Toms baguette and Pret A Manger’s first vegan cookies: Dark Chocolate & Almond Butter.

Hannah Dolan, Head of Food Development at Pret, comments, “We’re thrilled to be launching a new range of salads and products this spring. I’m especially excited about the vegan cookie, which combines almond butter with dark chocolate and sea salt to make the perfect afternoon treat. We’re also introducing several new ingredients to our menu for the first time, such as black rice and ancho chilli.”

Here is a run down of what to look out for:

Salads

Buffalo Mozzarella & Pesto, £5.50, vegetarian
A classic vegetarian recipe showcasing Pret’s delicious creamy buffalo mozzarella on a bed of mixed salad leaves. Served with chargrilled courgettes and red peppers, vegetarian pesto, fresh basil leaves and sliced avocado. Finished with toasted pine nuts and a Dijon dressing.

Vegan sweet treat

The vegan Chocolatey Coconut Bite is one of the most popular snacks at Pret. Customers are always asking for more vegan sweet treats and snacks and, as a result, Pret is now launching Pret A Manger’s first vegan cookies  – the Dark Chocolate & Almond Butter Cookie.

Combines vegan dark chocolate with almond butter and a little sea salt to make a delicious sweet treat: Pret A Manger’s first vegan cookies Vegan sweet treats are very popular amongst Pret’s customers and this cookie has been created to meet demand.

Breakfast

Mango & Banana Sunshine Bowl, £2.99, vegan
This tasty breakfast dish combines blended ripe mangoes with banana, coconut milk, granola and a little turmeric to make a Sunshine Smoothie. Fresh blueberries and crisp, dried coconut chips are added to give it a tropical flavour – it’s the perfect morning pick me up or afternoon sweet treat.

Baguettes

Avo, Olives & Toms, £3.50, vegan
Sliced avocado with Kalamata olive tapenade, roasted tomatoes and a handful of peppery rocket. Finished with fresh basil leaves and a sprinkling of pine nuts.

Vegan Chilli Flat Bread, £3.99, vegan
Enjoy spicy vegan chilli alongside creamy avocado, charred corn and black bean salsa. Pickled onions provide a slightly sharp note while red peppers and mixed salad leaves add crunch and bounce.

Pret x Chilly’s Reusable Bottles

Pret has collaborated with UK start-up Chilly’s to launch a range of reusable bottles in three exclusive designs to help customers reduce the number of plastic bottles they use. Pret CEO, Clive Schlee, blogged back in October 2017 asking customers, “What if Pret stopped selling plastic water bottles?”. James and Tim, founders of Chilly’s, saw Clive’s blog and emailed him asking if he would be interested in collaborating with Chilly’s to make reusable bottles for customers. The new bottles will be available in 14 shops in Brighton, Manchester and London from this week before rolling out more widely later on this year. The reusable bottles feature three exclusive Pret designs: the apple robot, the cucumber snake and the watermelon lollies. The Pret x Chilly’s reusable bottles are BPA-free and keep drinks cold for 24 hours and hot for 12 hours. £20 per bottle.

The reusable bottles will be available from this week in the following 14 shops: Brighton Station; Brighton, 42 East Street; Brighton, North Street; London, Broadwick Street; London, Great Eastern Street; London, Exmouth Market; London, Manchester, Media City; Manchester, Oxford Street; Manchester, Piccadilly Station; Manchester, Portland Street; Manchester, Trafford Centre; Manchester, Cross Street; Manchester, Deansgate; Manchester, Spinningfields. They will be available in Brighton and London from Wednesday 11th April and in Manchester from Thursday 12th April. Plastic bottle deposit trial begins

This week Pret is also launching a plastic bottle deposit return trial in its three Brighton shops. 10p will be added to the price of all Pret-branded plastic bottles and the deposit will be
returned when a bottle is given back to teams to recycle. The aim is to understand how many bottles are returned and to see if it encourages more customers to opt for a reusable bottle. If successful, the scheme will be introduced to more shops.
