Following its successful Veganuary menu, when it introduced 20 new vegan dishes, Frankie & Benny’s has added some more plant-based options to its summer menu which we were pleased to be able to try last week.
Frankie & Benny’s is a family-friendly Italian-American restaurant chain with over 250 locations across the UK. The menu is typical of an American diner with its range of pastas, pizzas, burgers, hot dogs, salads, milkshakes, sundaes, waffles and more.
We headed to our local Frankie & Benny’s on a Saturday. The restaurant was fully packed and bursting with activity. The limited edition summer menu is part of Frankie & Benny’s ‘Bring it back’ campaign – seeing the return of guests’ favourite dishes and much loved music.
The restaurant chain enlisted the help of their ‘top fans’ to help curate a special Frankie & Benny’s Favourites playlist to include classic tracks by Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, Bobby Vee, Dean Martin and more (full playlist can be found at https://spoti.fi/2RBTqQN).
The re-imagined menu is designed to appeal not just to families but also to adults, perhaps on a date night or an evening out with friends with an emphasis on the Friday and Saturday nights.
Frankie & Benny’s Vegan Menu now includes 22 plant-based dishes (including an innovative vegan full English fry-up) as well as 4 vegetarian options.
Highlights include Vegan Loaded Skins, Viva La Vegan Cheeseburger, Vegan Cheese Fries, Vegan No-Cheesecake, Vegan Lotus Biscoff, Vegan Nuggets, Vegan Not Dog, Vegan Fry Up and Vegan Scrambled Eggs. All vegan and vegetarian options are clearly marked on the menu so they can easily be identified.
After sharing some tasty Vegan Loaded Skins, served with a dairy-free creamy dip, we ordered a Smoky Beet Burger and a Kansas City BBQ Pizza.
Served with fries and vegan mayo, the mouth-watering Smoky Beet Burger was hearty and really satisfying. The patty, made from quinoa, beetroot, soya and tomato has a real bite to it. A great choice overall that would please vegans and meat eaters alike.
Launched in January, the Kansas City BBQ Pizza has been a staple of Frankie & Benny’s Vegan Menu ever since. The thin dough base is topped with smokey BBQ sauce as well as vegan chicken strips, vegan mozzarella and chives. In spite of being slightly overcooked, the vegan chicken strips still had a great texture and I loved the BBQ sauce.
For dessert we shared a No-Cheesecake served with vegan Choc Chip Ice Cream and fruit compote. The perfect end to our meal, the cheesecake was wonderfully light, almost like a mousse, and absolutely delicious. Our dining experience was made all the more enjoyable by the friendly and attentive service.
