Sometimes the simplest recipes are often the best! This is certainly the case for these “no duck” hoisin jackfruit wraps. Such a tasty lunch or light dinner that takes only 15 minutes to make.
I make my own hoisin sauce with black bean sauce, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, sesame oil and Chinese 5 spices (this is an ingredient you cannot skip here). If you cannot be bothered making your own, then you can simply use some storebought hoisin sauce. Keep in mind that making your own is easy and worth the effort though.
I have never been a fan of eating duck. Tasty maybe .. but also cruel and unnecessary. Jackfruit is the perfect substitute. Its consistency is similar to pulled duck (or pork or chicken). Cooked with spices, herbs and condiments it will absorb the flavours around it, making it a brilliant plant-based alternative to meat.
If you are looking for some more inspiration on what to cook with jackfruit, check my vegan Loaded BBQ Jackfruit Nachos. They have become a family staple recipe during the lockdown. So easy and satisfying.
