Looking for a delicious and easy vegan lunch or light dinner option? These hoisin jackfruit wraps are a must-try! Made with jackfruit, a popular meat substitute, and a flavorful homemade hoisin sauce, these wraps are a tasty and healthy option for any meal. Plus, they’re quick and easy to make, making them perfect for busy weekdays or lazy weekends.

Sometimes the simplest recipes are often the best! This is certainly the case for these “no duck” hoisin jackfruit wraps. Such a tasty lunch or light dinner that takes only 15 minutes to make.

I make my own hoisin sauce with black bean sauce, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, sesame oil and Chinese 5 spices (this is an ingredient you cannot skip here). If you cannot be bothered making your own, then you can simply use some store-bought hoisin sauce. Keep in mind that making your own is easy and worth the effort though.

Young green jackfruit vs. Ripe jackfruit

These hoisin jackfruit wraps are a delicious and healthy vegan alternative to traditional meat-based wraps. To make them, you’ll need to use young green jackfruit, which has a milder taste than ripe jackfruit. Ripe jackfruit has a fragrant aroma and yellow flesh with larger seeds and can be eaten fresh. Young green jackfruit is best to cook with, and you will find it in cans in most supermarkets.

Jackfruit grows in Southeast Asia and as its name suggests… is a fruit that has a dense and fleshy texture with plenty of fibre. Perhaps surprisingly, jackfruit’s flesh has the appearance and texture of pulled pork. Cooked with spices, herbs and condiments it will absorb the flavours around it, making it a brilliant plant-based alternative to pulled meat.

I have never been a fan of eating duck. Tasty maybe .. but also cruel and unnecessary. Jackfruit is the perfect substitute.  Its consistency is similar to pulled duck (or pork or chicken). Cooked with spices, herbs and condiments it will absorb the flavours around it, making it a brilliant plant-based alternative to meat.

How to make these “No Duck” Hoisin Jackfruit Wraps

The first step is to drain the jackfruit and remove as much of its brine by transferring to a kitchen towel and squeezing it to extract as much water as possible. You can then break up the jackfruit chunks with your fingers by pulling them apart.

Then all you have to do is heat all the sauce ingredients in a pan and cook together with the jackfruit pieces under medium heat for 5 to 8 mins. That’s pretty much it!

You can then serve cooked jackfruit on mini-wraps or Chinese pancakes topped with sliced cucumber, chopped spring onions, chopped salad, sesame seeds and chopped coriander leaves.

If you are looking for some more inspiration on what to cook with jackfruit, check out my vegan Loaded BBQ Jackfruit Nachos. They are one of our family staple recipes. So easy and satisfying.

I hope you enjoy this vegan “No Duck” Hoisin Jackfruit Wrap recipe as much as we do. If you do make this recipe, don’t forget to tag me on Instagram!
