When I first started cooking meat free dishes I found adding taste and flavour tricky. I just was not sure what did go well with what!
Yet after a period of trial and error, I got to know my way around spices and herbs a little bit better and it all became much easier! Still I am always on the lookout for new interesting food pairings and the infographic below has spurred some new ideas.
Compare to buying fresh herbs in the supermarket, growing herbs at home saves money. There is also no more rotting packets at the bottom of the fridge as a herb garden will stay fresher for longer.
Herbs such as the ones below can easily be grown in a garden or on a windowsill. I have two rosemary plants in my garden (currently in bloom), thyme, lemon thyme, several kinds of mint, chives. They do not require much attending to and provide a fresh supply of delicious flavours. I also tend to keep parsley and basil on my kitchen windowsill.
Alongside with recipe ideas, the handy “Herb Guide to Vegan Cooking” infographic below lists some easy tips on how best to match herbs, vegetables and cooking oil. Time to get adventurous in the kitchen!
