The festive season is the perfect time to indulge in these cute Christmas puff pastry pinwheels. Easy to make, delightfully flaky, they are filled with sweet mincemeat for the perfect seasonal treat or dessert.
One of the best things about this recipe is how incredibly simple it is. With just a handful of ingredients—most of which you probably already have in your kitchen—you can create a batch of warm, golden pinwheels in no time.
Puff pastry provides a buttery, light texture that perfectly complements the rich, fruity flavour of mincemeat. If you’re not a fan of mincemeat, don’t worry! These pinwheels are wonderfully versatile, and you can easily swap out the filling for your favourite jam or even chocolate spread for a decadent twist.
These Christmas puff pastry pinwheels are also a fun baking project to get the kids involved with. While cutting the pastry might require a keen attentive eye, spreading the filling and shaping the pinwheels are all fun and straightforward tasks that little hands can help with.

How to make Christmas puff pastry pinwheels
Ingredients:
To make these Christmas puff pastry wheels you will need:
- 1 sheet puff pastry
- mincemeat
- icing sugar
For the vegan egg wash (or see note 1 for substitutions)
- dairy-free butter
- dairy-free milk
- maple syrup
Step 1: Prepare the puff pastry
Preheat the oven to 200°C/400°F. Line a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
Using a pizza wheel or a sharp knife, cut the puff pastry sheet to measure 20 x 30cm (8×12 inch). Cut the puff pastry sheet into 6 equal squares of 10 x 10cm (4 x 4 inch). Place each square on the lined baking tray.
Step 2: Cut the pinwheels
Leaving a circle of approximately 2.5cm (1-inch) diameter in the middle of each square, slit each corner to create 4 triangular sections. The slits should not meet in the center (see picture above).
Step 3: Fold the pinwheels
Place 1 tablespoon on mincemeat in the middle of each square.
Fold every other corner of the triangular sections inwards to the center of each square. Flatten the dough in the center so that the pinwheel keeps its shape while baking. If needed spread the pinwheels out on the baking tray so that they do not touch while baking.
Step 4: Make the vegan egg wash
Mix together the melted dairy-free butter, milk, and maple syrup.
Brush the pinwheels with egg wash.
Step 5: Bake & serve
Bake in the oven for 13 to 15 minutes until golden all over.
Leave to cool down completely before dusting with icing sugar.
