There’s something utterly comforting about a homemade cherry clafoutis, and this vegan version has all the charm of the French classic, just without the eggs or dairy. Sweet, juicy cherries are baked into a soft, custard-like batter that turns golden and slightly crisp around the edges. Enjoy it warm from the oven with a dusting of icing sugar or chill it for the next day.

Vegan Cherry Clafoutis – A Classic French Dessert Made Plant-Based

There’s something undeniably comforting about a homemade clafoutis, and this vegan cherry version is no exception. Traditionally made with eggs and milk, this plant-based twist uses silken tofu to give a deliciously soft, custard-like texture to this dessert while being completely dairy and egg-free. Bursting with juicy cherries and a beautifully golden crust, it’s a dessert that feels both rustic and elegant, perfect for any occasion.

I have always loved flan-based desserts, and clafoutis holds a special place in my heart, bringing back memories of warm summer days and family gatherings. What I love most about this recipe is how adaptable it is. While cherries are the classic choice, you can easily swap in apples, pears, or berries, depending on the season. For an extra indulgent grown-up touch, a splash of kirsch or amaretto pairs beautifully with the sweet fruit.

When it comes to cherries, I find them so irresistible that I don’t even bother pitting them, though if you prefer, you absolutely can!

Whether you serve it warm with a dusting of icing sugar or enjoy it chilled the next day, this vegan cherry clafoutis is an effortless yet impressive dessert that’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser.

Thank you for providing this recipe! Cherry clafouti was one of the desserts I missed the most when I went vegan, so I was delighted to try this. I tried adding a tablespoon of chia seeds just because I saw chia seeds in other recipes, and it worked fine. In place of castor sugar, I used granulated sugar processed in a coffee grinder for 30 seconds (according to another recipe). I also increased the vanilla to one and a half tsp (the Julia Child clafouti uses an entire tablespoon, so one could probably use more). I was really happy with the texture and flavor. You can taste the tofu of course, but otherwise, I thought it was pretty close to the real thing.
