The UK’s largest organic and speciality food store, Planet Organic, has launched its ‘Vegan Shop’ – a specialist area of its online store selling a range of 3,700 vegan-only products.
From baby food and protein powder to candles and hair dye, the new category of its online shop will list vegan-only groceries, beauty products and health supplements, making it even easier for customers to shop its vegan ranges.
These ranges can be browsed across over 45 intuitive sub-categories, including vegan snacks, vegan chocolate, vegan skincare and vegan makeup.
Since its first store opened in 1995, Planet Organic has been providing choice to consumers with free-from needs and dietary requirements, and it estimates that at least 70 per cent of its customers follow a defined diet.
With a third of the UK population identifying as ‘flexitarian’ and a new survey by Kantar Worldpanel revealing that one in four UK dinners are vegetarian or vegan, supermarkets and restaurants across the UK are bolstering their vegetarian and vegan ranges amid signs that plant-based eating is becoming increasingly mainstream.
The latest Google Trends data shows that UK search volumes for key vegan products and categories such as ‘vegan diet’, ‘vegan chocolate’ and ‘vegan cheese’, are up 100 per cent so far this year when compared with the same period in 2017.
According to Planet Organic, this online interest has translated into sales. Early results from across its London stores and online at PlanetOrganic.com, show that sales of vegan food have soared this year – a trend experienced across the retail sector.
In response to increasing market demand, Tesco, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Ocado and Asda have all announced vegan range launches since the start of the year.
