For the past couple of weeks, I have been drooling over Green Kitchen Stories‘ latest book and could not wait to be sharing it with you. The wait is finally over! Today, courtesy of David & Luise, I have got a bundle of goodies for you to celebrate the official UK launch.
First, I am going to be talking about Green Kitchen Smoothies and sharing two exclusive recipes. Then, if you scroll at the bottom of this page, you’ll find a competition entry form to win your own signed copy. How good does this sound?!?
Green Kitchen Smoothies is the third book from David Frenkiel and Luise Vindahl, the globetrotting couple behind the gorgeous Green Kitchen Stories blog. Luise is a qualified nutritionist with a passion for developing wheat-free and sugar-free recipes and David is the photographer and design-eye behind their work.
Their two previous books, The Green Kitchen and Green Kitchen Travels, focused on healthy & simple vegetarian food made with whole grains, good fats, fruits and vegetables. The third instalment of their work, Green Kitchen Smoothies, compiles over 50 ways to create a healthy smoothie.
The book opens with a useful smoothie pantry, listing all the essentials you might need. A basic formula on creating the perfect smoothie, is also there to help you come up with your own blends.
Smoothies are a quick and easy way to include more vegetables and fruits in your diet. Versatile, they make a healthy breakfast, snack, post-workout replenishing treat or even a guilt-free dessert.
Green Kitchen Smoothies goes beyond simply mixing together vegetables and fruits. The first chapter is dedicated to some basic recipes for nut butter, chia pudding, granola, muesli which make scrumptious additions and toppings to some of David & Luise’s recipes. The following chapters include Simple Smoothies, Showstoppers, Nut Milks, Juices and Desserts.
There are so many yummy recipe ideas including a Superberry & Fennel Smoothie, a Mocha Morning Buzz to boost energy levels or a zingy Avocado, Mango and Lime Smoothie.
Raising two young children, David & Luise know how important (and challenging) it can be to get kids to eat vegetables. They have cleverly disguise broccoli and peas in this Kids’ Greenie Smoothie recipe. Of course, it is great for adults too! My own kids have been enjoying it for breakfast, while the Banana Snickers Shake now makes regular appearances as an after school snack.
This year, I started making my own nut milk (something I need to share with you over the upcoming months). Homemade nut milk tastes so much better than the one you buy in the shops. They are great on their own, flavoured or added to smoothies. Beyond some twists on basics such as Strawberry Cashew Milk, Green Kitchen Smoothies includes an unusual yet delicious Sesame Seed Milk which is ideal for anyone suffering from nut allergies.
And then, they are my two favourite chapters, Desserts and Showstoppers.
Smoothies and desserts are a match in guilt-free heaven. Here come Apple Pie In A Glass, Marble Smoothie Popsicles and a stunning Berry Smoothie & Salted Caramel Semifreddo. All of them very straightforward while being absolutely scrumptious.
The second recipe I am sharing is this Kiwi Kale Chia Parfait from the Showstoppers section. It is beyond gorgeous in every way: taste, colour and yumminess.
This chapter of Green Kitchen Smoothies takes smoothies to the next level swirling in granola, chia pudding, nut butter. A bit more effort but so worth it. Do try the Kefir Bircher with Middle-Eastern Citrus Salad, the Green Gazpacho Smoothie or the Acai Bowl Extra Everything. You will not be disappointed.
So yes, I did love Green Kitchen Smoothies, now proudly standing on my bookshelf next to Green Kitchen Travels. The photography is absolutely amazing and there is something for everyone in the many recipes created by David & Luise. It is a tremendous resource for smoothie enthusiasts and newbies alike, who are trying to incorporate more fruits and vegetables in your daily routine and feel energise from the inside out.
