Air Fryer Asparagus with Hazelnut Gremolata: Quick, Easy, and Delicious
Crispy on the outside and tender inside, these air-fryer asparagus make a quick, easy, and delicious spring dish. They are incredibly versatile and can be served as a light lunch, appetiser, or side dish alongside various mains.
I like to top them with a hazelnut gremolata, which adds a crunchy texture and a burst of fresh, zesty flavour. The combination of parsley, garlic, lemon zest, and toasted hazelnuts complements the asparagus perfectly. However, you can easily customise the toppings to suit your taste (see my suggested variations below for more ideas).
Air-frying is an great way to cook asparagus, as it enhances their natural sweetness and slightly caramelises the outside, giving them a more intense flavour. This method also requires significantly less oil than roasting, making it a healthier option without sacrificing taste or texture. Additionally, air-frying is much quicker than using an oven, as the high heat and circulating air cook the asparagus evenly in just a few minutes. This not only saves time but also reduces energy consumption, making it a more cost-effective way to prepare vegetables.
Whether enjoyed on its own or paired with salads, grains, or grilled proteins, this air-fryer asparagus recipe makes a simple yet flavourful addition to any meal.
What is gremolata?
Gremolata is a classic Italian condiment / sauce made from parsley, garlic, and lemon zest. Herby and zesty is a great all-rounder that will brighten any grilled meat, seafood, tofu, roasted vegetables, eggs, grain or pasta salad.
I like to combine it with hazelnuts, walnuts, or pistachios for extra depth.
