First of all let me wish you a very Happy & Healthy New Year. After taking some time off over the holidays, I have been doing a bit of tidying up of the blog today as well as looking at stats and numbers. 2016 was a very productive year for The Flexitarian and, as many more people embrace the flexitarian diet, I am really looking forward to seeing the blog grow even more. Flexitarianism has become one of the buzzwords for 2017 as the trend to eating less meat is gaining more and more momentum. Did you know that 1/3 of the UK population is now making a conscious effort to reduce its meat consumption?!
While I never talk about politics on the blog, make no mistake the food we eat is a political choice. The food industry is a massive corporate body which from crop to plates affects our health, the environment and animal welfare. Every choice we make has consequences so, in the words of Monty Python, “choose wisely”. Choose local food to support local businesses and reduce food miles. Choose seasonal food as crops grown in season have less environmental impact. Whenever possible choose organic produce which is better for your health and nature. Choose to avoid eating processed food and drinking sugary drinks as both will have disastrous effects on your health. And yes, choose to eat less meat and whenever you eat it make sure you choose organic or grass fed meat.
Or in the words of Michael Pollan : “Eat food, not too much, mostly plants.”
While looking back at the past 12 months and compiling this list (according the most likes, pins, tweets and so on…), I was pleasantly surprised to see that you like sweet potatoes as much as I do 🙂 . They are also all vegan and gluten free.
Without further ado, here are the Best 5 recipes of 2016 as decided by you.
