The Hot List: 4 New Vegan Products To Try This March

Oggs Celebration Cake

1. OGGS® Chocolate Celebration Cake

With Mother’s Day just around the corner, it is the perfect time to celebrate the arrival of the new OGGS® Chocolate Celebration Cake. A moist chocolate sandwich cake filled with a rich chocolate icing and decorated with edible stars, chocolate curls and golden glitter sprinkled on the top. Unapologetically moreish, this vegan cake is made with OGGS® patented Aquafaba, an all-plant liquid egg substitute made from chickpea brine.

OGGS® vegan cakes are free of eggs, dairy and nuts. They are not only a great choice for anyone trying to reduce their consumption of animal products but they are also a tasty option for those with allergies.

At the heart of the OGGS® philosophy is a determination to reduce animal cruelty and to have minimal impact on the environment. OGGS® use sustainable palm oil and its packaging is fully recyclable and biodegradable in landfill conditions.

Like other cakes from OGGS®,  this Chocolate Celebration Cake does not disappoint. It is delicious! A real crowd-pleaser that will appeal to vegans and non-vegans alike.

Don’t forget that our competition to WIN A Bundle of Vegan Cakes from OGGS® ends tomorrow!

Verdict: ★★★★★

Good Catch

2. Good Catch

Good Catch is a new fish-free tuna range available in three flavours: Naked in Water, Oil & Herbs and Mediterranean Inspired. Good Catch is made from a blend of peas, chickpeas, lentils, soya, fava beans and navy beans, alongside seaweed and algae extracts. It can be eaten hot or cold. Free of GMOs, Good Catch is high in plant-based protein and contains omega-3s. It boasts 18g of plant-based protein per 94g pouch.

I tried Good Catch straight from the pouch as well as in a plant-based “tuna” melt sandwich. It has a hearty satisfying texture with chunky flakes but lacks in seafood flavour. To really get that fishy flavour, it works best with added capers and sprinkled nori.

Verdict: ★★★✰✰

Price: £2.50

Beanit

3. Beanit
Beanit is the latest meat substitute to hit the UK supermarket shelves. It is made from just three ingredients: fava beans, pea protein and water and contains 31g of plant-based protein per 100g. The fava beans (i.e broad beans) are grown in Finland where Beanit is produced. Fava beans are rich in proteins, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and dietary fibre.

Beanit is available in the UK as mince or pieces which can simply be pan-fried with spices, sauces and herbs. Like tofu, Beanit will take the flavours of what it is cooked with so it can be used to create many different world cuisine recipes.

Beanit has a really tasty and convincing meaty texture and will please meat and non-meat eaters alike. What I was most impressed with, is that you can create a satisfying meal in no time and that it is a truly versatile ingredient.

Verdict: ★★★★✰

Sproud Barista Pea Milk

4. Sproud Barista Pea Milk

Another nordic innovation, Sproud Barista Pea Milk definitely raised a few eyebrows at home. While we have become accustomed to dairy-free milk options made from oat or nuts, pea milk is, to say the least, quite unusual.

Sproud’s products are made in Sweden from dry yellow peas cultivated in Europe. Using pea protein in vegan products is becoming increasingly popular as peas are considered to have a smaller environmental footprint. Unlike nuts, peas require little water to grow and are considered a regenerative crop as they naturally put nitrogen back into the soil. Also, peas can be grown in European climates, minimising transport and deforestation issues.

Fortified with vitamins D3, B12 and Riboflavin, Sproud Barista Pea Milk has an off-white tint similar to other plant-based milks. Similarly to Oatly Barista, Sproud Barista has a smooth texture, neutral taste and blends perfectly in hot drinks.

Verdict: ★★★★✰

Price: £2.00

Get it from: Sainsburys

This is a great list! I agree that Sproud is a unique one. It’s incredible to think of how many types of non-dairy milk we have now. With COVID-19, it’s important that we support businesses like those on your list. It’s great they’re launching new vegan products for us. Thanks for this post!
