Seasonal Recipes for June

June marks the start of summer in the UK, bringing an abundance of fresh vegetables, vibrant salads and the first wave of sweet summer fruits. Itโ€™s the perfect time to move towards lighter, quicker meals built around ingredients like peas, courgettes, broad beans and juicy strawberries. Browse May late spring recipes here.

Whatโ€™s in season in June in the UK

June is one of the most exciting months for seasonal eating, with a huge variety of fresh produce available.

Vegetables in season

  • Peas โ€“ Sweet and tender, perfect for pasta, risotto and salads
  • Broad beans โ€“ Nutty and fresh, ideal in light summer dishes
  • Courgettes โ€“ Delicate and versatile, great roasted or spiralised
  • Cucumber โ€“ Crisp and refreshing, perfect for salads
  • Lettuce and salad leaves โ€“ At their best for light meals
  • New potatoes โ€“ Ideal for boiling, roasting or salads
  • Asparagus (end of season) โ€“ Still available early in the month

 

Fruits in season

  • Strawberries โ€“ At their peak and full of flavour
  • Cherries โ€“ Sweet and perfect for desserts or snacking
  • Gooseberries โ€“ Tart and great for crumbles
  • Raspberries and currants โ€“ Fresh, vibrant and ideal for summer dishes

June offers a wide range of produce, from leafy greens to summer berries, making it ideal for simple, fresh cooking. Look out also for artichoke,ย aubergine,ย beetroot, broccoli,ย carrot, ย fennel, lettuce, mange tout,ย new potatoes,ย radish, runner bean,ย spinach, spring onion,ย tomato,ย watercressย PLUS blueberry, and kiwi.
